I hate when I can’t get to blogging because of silly little things getting in the way like…life. Which is dumb because, as my blog motto implies, I’m constantly eating, so I shouldn’t have a problem making time to talk about it. But I do. Luckily, things like Instagram and Twitter help me keep somewhat in touch even if I don’t have time to post a full on blog.
So to start the gears of progress once again, here’s a quick synopsis of my highlight meals over the past two weeks. (There were some “low-lights” but I’ll get to those in another post.)
Monday, March 10. – Fork. 8th and Idaho, downtown Boise (@BoiseFork). To celebrate my wife’s new job, we headed to one of our favorite restaurants in the city where I had Beef tip stroganoff washed down with “Turmoil” the Cascadian Dark by Barley Browns (@BarleyBrowns). Great pairing for a great meal.
Saturday, March 15th – Highlands Hollow. North of Hill Rd. on Bogus Basin Rd. (@HighlandsHollow). After a night camping with my buddies, we stopped at the Hollow on our way back into town. I had the Stevanzo Bella Sandwich, a vegetarian combination of Portobello mushrooms, red bell pepper on a bed of greens topped with sun-dried tomato vinaigrette and Feta cheese. Of course eaten with HH’s Pipsqueak American Pale Ale.
Tuesday, March 18 – Panda Garden. Vista & Overland on the Boise bench (boisepandagarden.com). A new-found Chinese/Japanese food favorite, my wife and I enjoyed a casual meal here where I got the Hunan Tangerine Beef which had a beautifully oozy sesame sauce and candied peel throughout.
Friday, March 21 – Flatbread Neapolitan Pizza. 8th & Main, downtown Boise (@Flatbread_Pizza). After a long work week, there’s not much like having the Sea Salt and Parmesan Flatbread appetizer along with a “City of Trees” from Woodland Empire Ale Craft (@WoodlandEmpire). For “dessert” we had the pepperoni, sausage and Portobello pizza.
Saturday, March 22 – Angell’s Bar and Grill. 9th & Main, downtown Boise (AngellsBoise). It’s very sad finding out that good friends are moving out-of-town, but when they do, you wish them well over a great dinner. This is why we went to Angell’s and where I got to order Steak Au Poivre, an aged sirloin laid over potato mousse, gorgonzola crumbles and finished with peppercorn brandy Demi glacé. They cooked it to the perfect Medium Rare I requested and I adored every bite.
