I’m two!…

TBRD_Final_no man_1to1_bdayThis week I passed the second anniversary of starting The Back Row Diner. Like a two-year-old, this blog has grown from a new-born that eats a lot, to a small voice that doesn’t make much sense.

Still, when I started TBRD I wanted to get back into writing, while at the same time justify eating out more. This blog has allowed me to do both of those things.

So to those of you who regularly come back to read, thank you… I question your time management, but thank you. To those of you who’ve stumbled upon The Back Row Diner for the first time, hopefully you can find a review or an interesting topic in my archives that gets you excited about food.

I look forward to continuing to post and becoming a better food writer, but mostly to sharing my love of food with everyone.

Just out of curiosity…

I got curious about my blog subjects today, so I created a quick word picture using a bunch of the words I’ve used in the past. Someday, I might make a more in-depth version with the most common words I’ve used over the entire blog, but that’ll have to wait. If you want to create your own word picture, check out Tagxedo. Very cool website where I made mine!

Life stalls all…well, at least blogging…

I hate when I can’t get to blogging because of silly little things getting in the way like…life. Which is dumb because, as my blog motto implies, I’m constantly eating, so I shouldn’t have a problem making time to talk about it. But I do. Luckily, things like Instagram and Twitter help me keep somewhat in touch even if I don’t have time to post a full on blog.

So to start the gears of progress once again, here’s a quick synopsis of my highlight meals over the past two weeks. (There were some “low-lights” but I’ll get to those in another post.)

Monday, March 10. – Fork. 8th and Idaho, downtown Boise (@BoiseFork). To celebrate my wife’s new job, we headed to one of our favorite restaurants in the city where I had Beef tip stroganoff washed down with “Turmoil” the Cascadian Dark by Barley Browns (@BarleyBrowns). Great pairing for a great meal.

Saturday, March 15th – Highlands Hollow. North of Hill Rd. on Bogus Basin Rd. (@HighlandsHollow). After a night camping with my buddies, we stopped at the Hollow on our way back into town. I had the Stevanzo Bella Sandwich, a vegetarian combination of  Portobello mushrooms, red bell pepper on a bed of greens topped with sun-dried tomato vinaigrette and Feta cheese. Of course eaten with HH’s Pipsqueak American Pale Ale.

Tuesday, March 18 – Panda Garden. Vista & Overland on the Boise bench (boisepandagarden.com). A new-found Chinese/Japanese food favorite, my wife and I enjoyed a casual meal here where I got the Hunan Tangerine Beef which had a beautifully oozy sesame sauce and candied peel throughout.

Friday, March 21 – Flatbread Neapolitan Pizza. 8th & Main, downtown Boise (@Flatbread_Pizza). After a long work week, there’s not much like having the Sea Salt and Parmesan Flatbread appetizer along with a “City of Trees” from Woodland Empire Ale Craft (@WoodlandEmpire). For “dessert” we had the pepperoni, sausage and Portobello pizza.

Saturday, March 22 – Angell’s Bar and Grill. 9th & Main, downtown Boise (AngellsBoise). It’s very sad finding out that good friends are moving out-of-town, but when they do, you wish them well over a great dinner. This is why we went to Angell’s and where I got to order Steak Au Poivre, an aged sirloin laid over potato mousse, gorgonzola crumbles and finished with peppercorn brandy Demi glacé. They cooked it to the perfect Medium Rare I requested and I adored every bite.
